An Opportunity to “Engage”

BMC Engage

The conference season is starting again and I am off to BMC Engage next week. It will be interesting to see and hear what is new at this giant of IT. I am lucky to be invited to events from industry-leading technology companies and this is one event that I would be crazy to pass on.

BMC Remedy is a leader in the  ITSSM marketplace < Get your copy here. Let’s face it, ServiceNow has had a fantastic run of late and they continue to influence the market in much more than just Incident, problem and change process management. Their focus on the platform and enablement of business units outside IT, and the way they are pushing IT to deliver capabilities, is forcing other software vendors, like BMC, to think outside the box.

There are a couple of things I am interested in seeing while I am in Vegas.

I want a better understanding of Smart IT. Gartner says, “BMC Remedy’s Smart IT user interface improves usability and flexibility, and demonstrates BMC’s innovation in this market”.

For those who know what I like in software, it is all about the UI and how easily it supports professionals and enables them to get things done in their day-to-day job. I like to see flexibility in how things can be configured because no-one works the same way, seeing this in action will be of high interest to me.

I want to see the BMC vision for how they speak to, and enable organizations on their ITOM journey. I have always seen the service desk and ITSM tools as a hub for all areas of IT, and the value IT can deliver to the business. Gartner says, “BMC has a broad ITOM portfolio, making it a viable partner for mature I&O organizations that need to extend their ITSSM tool”.

In my view, ITOM is not just for the enterprise. It may be where the money is for the vendor community, but the value is also there for companies that may be lower on the food chain.

I hope to meet with executives and customers to learn more about the current and future state of BMC. So stay tuned over the next week or so for some posts that speak to these two areas, and anything else that I feel is new and exciting. Follow me on Twitter at @W_Goddard as I will be posting commentary from some keynotes and sessions as well.
