ITSM to the rescue!
When we announced that the AllThings ITSM Global podcast team would not be able to get to SITS15 to record conversations with people from the ITSM community, the response was fast and overwhelming.

ToggleSo many people offered solutions and support to try to get us there, but in the end two vendors stepped up and supported us to make it possible.
Thank you BMC Software and Hornbill for making it possible for the team to attend an important industry event and capture the thoughts of some of the best minds in our industry. A special shout out to Patrick Bolger, Pete Summers and Gerry Sweeney from Hornbill and Jason Frye, Dan Ortega and Laura Bennett from BMC Software โ we really appreciate your ongoing support of the AllThingsITSM initiative and the global podcast.
There was also a surprise SITSmas elf that came to the rescue. We need to say a great big thank you to Toby Moore from Servicedesk360 who went out of his way to make sure we had an appropriate place to record and Cartsen Holm from Diversified who gave us all the big A-OK. When Toby realized our recording wasnโt optimal on the show floor, he arranged it so we could record on the second floor of the exhibition and arranged for other things we needed. All this during a time when he was crazy busy with other show logistics.
Filling the Gaps
Even with all the luck and generosity that was given to us, we still had gaps.
I sincerely want to thank all of our guest hosts from this yearโs event. They knew we were short staffed and these people gladly volunteered their time to work with our regular host Kirstie Magowan, and we are forever grateful to you for your support and for sharing your wisdom with the world on the podcast.

It’s Not All About You!
The vendor community is funny. Some look at initiatives like AllThingsITSM and say โWhatโs in it for me?โ I could name vendors that approached us and just wanted to know how we could help them get a contactโs name or help them with lead gen. Is supporting the podcast about generating vendor leads or is about helping share their voice to a growing community and in return, earning the right to generate leads? I could be wrong, and it wouldnโt be the first time. What we have decided to do is to support the vendors who see value in having and supporting an initiative such as ours.
We have a great team at AllThingsITSM and weโre excited to work with vendors that support us to help get their messaging out to the community. At SITS15, we helped BMC launch its Digital Workplace and Digital Service Management journey. The Podcast crew had a great conversation with Dan Ortega from BMC, so if you want to get a better idea of what this new messaging is all about, this is well worth watching. Then there was Hornbillโs Collaborative ITSM product launch, which resonated very well and is getting good airplay on the AllThingsITSM podcast. It was great to have the team talk to CEO Gerry Sweeney to get a good handle on what this is all about. And even better to hear from a client of theirs how well it is going with the new Hornbill solution and technology.
Foreseeing the Future
I didnโt get a lot of time to wander around the show floor this year, but I did manage to speak to a few of the vendors there. I felt there was a real divide between those who are still spouting the same message they were sharing 10 years ago – treating the service desk as a stand-alone entity, removed from the business and just dealing with IT issues – and those who have embraced a new way of working, who have realized that IT and business are not separate entities, who have adapted to the rapid change in the IT landscape not only with new products but a new way of telling why they are important.
It doesnโt take a crystal ball to see the demise of the former type and the rapid and continued rise of vendors who are forward thinking and take a part in shaping the future of service management.
We are presently working on attending more industry events to capture more conversations with the voices that matter. We look forward to working with the vendors that support this incredible community not only with their money, YES! I SAID IT but with the innovation, knowledge and experience they bring to us all.
I am looking forward to getting our podcast team to as many industry related events this year as humanly possible. If you support the service management community and you want to learn how we can support it more together. Please contact William@allthingsITSM.com. We are just getting started!
