Getting Engaged in Las Vegas

A busy show floor at BMCEngage

Las Vegas might lose its shine when you head there for the third time in one year, but when the AllThingsITSM Global Podcast team was invited to record conversations at BMC Engage we found some new shiny things to focus on.

Some may think of BMC as a mature company that is not about innovation and maybe they were. However, we were with a company that is not only eating their own dog food and walking the walk, but transforming their company and others into a technology leader for the digital enterprise.

The Executive Buzz

The event was very well planned and executed and had a real C-Level buzz to it, and they really liked what BMC was saying. The message of customer experience and digital enablement resonated with all attendees and it was very refreshing to see BMC and the other vendors at the event talking solutions and experiences rather than trying to sell widgets and trinkets.

The team really needs to say a big thank you to the conference team โ€“ especially Dawn Satkowski, Susan Derrick and the entire marketing team led by Naomi Miller. They made our job so much easier by giving us access to BMC executives, top customers and BMC partners for our interviews. We are thrilled with the quality of guests and the excellent content that we have been able to bring to the industry as a result. You can find the podcasts here.

A Customer Focus

There was a strong focus on understanding customers and providing an outstanding end-user experience at this event. The talk around the conference floor was more about this than it was about the technology behind it โ€“ a very real change in focus.

If I could change anything about the event โ€“ What was with the four hours of Keynotes? There were very high quality and engaging speakers on stage, but four hours is just too long for any audience to concentrate. My biggest disappointment was that we were way tooย busy talking to our podcast guests to attend many of the great sessions that were on the program. One other annoyance โ€“ can someone please tell the Aria Resort to improve the water pressure in their showers!

Meeting Old Friends

One of the high points for the podcast team was our chat with Matthieu Laurenceau. We all knew Matt from online ITSM communities, but none of us had met him face-to-face before. Matt does an amazing job in building and managing the BMC communities and he brings a real energy to the room!

This was an event of big announcements. BMC is really pushing the envelope and meeting the digital challenge head-on with a huge number of new innovations. I donโ€™t have room to discuss all of these here, but here are what I was most excited by.

MyIT Service Broker – The MyIT Service Broker solution lets employees access the system through their PCs, smartphones and other mobile devices, where they can use the online catalog to order computers and other hardware, download BMC and other third-party software, and secure cloud and on-premises services.

HR Case Management โ€“ Continuing the drive for pushing workflows out of IT and into the business BMCโ€™s new HR Case Management solution helps companies standardize and automate HR workflows, replacing manual forms with digital services and improving employee engagement by offering anytime, anywhere access to common HR services.

True-Sight Pulse – this solution is the newest addition to BMCโ€™s Digital Enterprise Management set of solutions designed to make digital business fast and seamless, and optimize every environment from mainframe to mobile to cloud. The TrueSight Pulse solution supports this vision by providing second-by-second monitoring for IT Ops and DevOps teams that need to quickly centralize events, alerts, and notifications from todayโ€™s modern platforms, which includes deep visibility for Amazon Web Services.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the BMC team for bringing the Podcast to Las Vegas and treating us so well. We really felt like part of their family and look forward to doing more with BMC in the future.
